Texas State University will begin offering a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering at its Round Rock Campus in fall 2027.

It will be the first engineering degree taught at the Round Rock site. The university says the expansion is intended to give students in North Travis County and the wider Central Texas region another route into a field used across technology, manufacturing, energy and other industries.

Which electrical engineering concentrations are planned?

The Round Rock program is due to launch with three concentrations:

  • computer engineering;
  • nanotechnology; and
  • network communication.

Texas State expects to add a fourth concentration in power and energy in later years. The university has not given a start date for that additional option, so prospective students should not assume it will be available in the first Round Rock intake.

The existing Texas State electrical engineering program covers mathematics, science, management and engineering applications. The university says graduates can work on electrical and electronic devices, systems and services, including projects in aerospace, automotive technology, computing, construction, instrumentation and health services.

Texas State also states that its electrical engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. Students should check the university’s admissions and program pages for the precise Round Rock course structure, application timetable and concentration availability before applying.

Where will the new degree be taught?

The announcement was made during the August 19 dedication of Esperanza Hall at the Round Rock Campus. The new building is at 1555 University Boulevard.

Esperanza Hall cost $52.4 million and contains 81,600 square feet. Its completed first floor includes a tiered lecture hall, general classrooms, study areas, lounges and conference rooms. The second and third floors are currently shell space reserved for future development.

Texas State says later work is intended to create a student learning commons and faculty offices on the second floor, with science laboratories on the third. The university links the added space to increasing enrollment and the introduction of programs such as electrical engineering.

What prospective students know so far

The confirmed details are the fall 2027 planned start, the bachelor’s degree, the first three concentrations and the Round Rock location. Tuition, application deadlines and a detailed Round Rock course sequence were not included in the announcement.
