Round Rock City Council is scheduled to consider an ordinance on September 10 that would add the updated Round Rock Trails Plan to the city’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
The item is listed for first reading. The council record describes a proposed amendment to Playbook 2030: Building a Connected Community; it does not record a council decision or mean that the plan has already been adopted.
When Playbook 2030 was adopted, the city included an updated Trails Priority List as an appendix and anticipated that a more comprehensive plan would follow. The ordinance now before council would incorporate that later work into the broader parks strategy.
Public input shaped the proposal
Round Rock’s Parks and Recreation Department worked with RVi Planning + Landscape Architecture on the plan. According to the council material, the project included three in-person open houses in different parts of the city and an online survey that remained open for several months.
More than 600 people took part, producing approximately 3,300 comments and suggestions. The project team used that feedback to establish guiding principles, identify possible future connections and develop priorities for the network.
The recommendations are intended to guide more than individual construction projects. They organise possible connections and priorities while considering how nearby streets, buildings and public spaces can support access to the trail system.
Brushy Creek corridor is included
The plan also contains Trail-Oriented Design recommendations for the Brushy Creek Trail. The council material describes an approach that considers how trails and greenways connect with nearby development and transport routes to support walking and cycling.
RVi also examined potential economic opportunities connected with the trail network. The full plan contains the detailed recommendations; the September 10 agenda item concerns whether the council should formally incorporate it into Playbook 2030.
